What they were, how they were chosen and what remains of them today.

Peter Clayton is an Egyptologist, Archeologist and Numismatist who has excavated on sites in England and Egypt. He is one of only two Honorary Members of the Institute of Archeology, University College London. He has lectured widely in England, in most of the major museums and universities, and in Europe and Australia on Egyptian art, archeology, antiquities and numismatics.
Our speaker will be exploring the mystery of the monuments and sites which were so awesome that the ancient world classified them as „wonders“: The Great Pyramid of Giza, The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, The Statue of Zeus at Olympia, The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, The Colossus of Rhodes and The Lighthouse of Alexandria. They were first referred to by Herodotus in the 5th century before Christ. Although only one, the great Pyramid of Gaza, stood the test of time, they reflected the ability of humans to change the surrounding landscape by building massive yet beautiful structures. Today archaeologists are striving to reveal some of their mysteries.

Parkmöglichkeiten auf den anliegenden Strassen, auf den Parkplätzen des Giradethauses und am Ende der Gregorstraße vorhanden. U-Bahn Verbindung von Essen-Hbf: Linien U11, 101 und 107, Station Martinstraße (3 Minuten Fußweg). Busse von der Haltestelle Giradet Haus (Linie 142) und von der Haltestelle Martinstraße (Linien 142, 160 und 161).
